The island
of Tenerife is famous for its all year round warm temperatures and good
climate, making
it an ideal holiday destination at anytime of the year.
The Canary Islands are
made up of seven Islands which are situated approximately 300 kilometres
off the West Coast of Africa. Tenerife is the largest of these and
is dominated by Spain’s highest peak, the volcano Mount Teide
which towers over the island. Situated centrally, it can be seen
from many place and separates the slightly cooler and greener North
from the sunnier and dryer South.

We have been holidaying in Tenerife every year for
the past 18 years and have fell in love with the people we have met,
the pace of life, the standard of living and the quality of service
we have received there. We are sure you will find the same. |
| Tenerife is around four hours flying
time from the UK and The Royal Palm complex is only approximately
15 minutes from the southern airport by car. |

Tenerife
is a duty free haven with shopping widespread, however seasoned
shoppers head for the bustling capital of Santa Cruz. There are
lots of Electrical shops in the resort, who are all in competition
with each other - we have found that it is best to haggle - a shop
keeper will give you a much better price if he thinks they are
going to lose a customer!!! Other good buys include, leather items
such as belts and handbags, you will find perfumes and aftershaves
are all discounted, as are alcohol, cigars, tobacco and cigarettes. |

Don't worry if you forget anything - there are a couple of supermarkets locally which stock everything! The newly opened Spar supermarket has a lovely fresh fish and meat counter, however, there are a couple of larger supermarkets in the town some offering free delivery.

Carnivals: Celebrated during February, carnivals are the most important
celebrations in all the districts of Tenerife particularly in the capital
Santa Cruz.
Corpus Christi: (June) Carpets of flowers and volcanic earth in La Orotava
and La Laguna.
Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria: (14/15 of August) Festival of
patron saint of the island in Candelaria.
San Andrés: (29/30 of November) New wine tasting festival in Icod,
La Orotava and Puerto de la Cruz.

| Music Festival of the Canary Islands:
(June) One of the most prestigious European classical music festivals
with the best performers and orchestras taking part. |
| Opera Season: (October, November and December) Organised
by the Tenerife association of Friends of the Opera (922 272535). |
 |
Sabandeño Festival:
(September) Folklore Music Festival with Canary and Foreign groups
in La Laguna during the festivities
of Christ. Christmas Eve is on January 5th and is celebrated by festivals
in the centre of town. Christmas day, is, not surprisingly, January
6th! Most of the shops are closed as it is a public holiday. |
